There are four main courses relevant for welfare, some are targeted at coaches whilst others at those working as welfare officers; click on the links to search for local courses or read more about them below first:

Safeguarding & Protecting Children
This workshop focuses on good practice to protect the child and the coach in a sporting environment. It will help you to:
- Identify the foundations of safeguarding, good practice and child protection
- Describe the different categories of child abuse and recognise the signs and symptoms of each
- Provide you with knowledge of how to take appropriate action if concerns are raised
This course is suitable for any adult volunteering in a club environment who has regular contact with children and young people.

Safeguarding & Protecting Children (16-18 year olds)
As above, but is tailored specifically for the needs of our younger coaches in sport.

Safeguarding & Protecting Children (Reflecting on Practice)
This is a refresher course aimed at people who have completed the Safeguarding and Protecting Children course but gives you the opportunity to update and enhance your knowledge, allowing you to share best practice and learn from one another’s experiences to help create that positive, child focussed environment.

Time to Listen
This is an NSPCC Child Protection In Sport Unit (CPSU) course aimed specifically at Club Welfare Officers. The course will help you to:
- Define your role and your responsibilities in relation to other designated people at county/regional national and organisational levels
- Describe how your role will work in practice
- Familiarise yourselves with BG’s safeguarding policies, procedures and good practice guidelines
- Identify and describe elements of legislation and government guidance relevant to your role
- Identify the specific roles of and responsibilities of statutory agencies
- Demonstrate skills in how your role relates to the statutory agencies and BG in cases of actual or suspected child abuse
This course is suitable for anyone aged 18+, holding a valid certificate for the Safeguarding and Protecting Children course. It is a requirement of BG and GymMark for all Club Welfare Officers to complete the training.
